HAWARDEN—A 45-year-old Alcester, SD, man was arrested about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, on charges of felon in control of a firearm about four miles northeast of Hawarden.

The arrest of Joseph Edward Constance stemmed from the stop of a southbound 2000 GMC Sonoma on Cherry Avenue near the 420th Street intersection, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Constance was found to be in possession of a loaded Savage 111 .243-caliber rifle, according to court records.

He also was cited for improperly having a loaded gun in a vehicle and failure to provide proof on vehicle insurance.
