SPIRIT LAKE—Iowa Department of Natural Resources enforcement officer Steve Reighard of Spirit Lake has died due to complications from COVID-19. He was 59.
According a statement posted to Facebook by the Iowa Fish and Game Conservation Officers Association, Reighard died from complications due to COVID-19 at a Sioux Falls hospital on Friday morning with his family by his side.
It is thought that Reighard is the first law enforcement officer in the state to die from the virus.
Reighard started his DNR career in 2005 as a Park Ranger at Gull Point State Park. In 2012 he transferred to the Law Enforcement Bureau serving Dickinson County.
Funeral services for will be h10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Good News Community Church in Okoboji. Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
