OCHEYEDAN—A 33-year-old Spirit Lake man faces multiple charges after crashing his vehicle into an electrical transformer box, causing a citywide power outage in Ocheyedan for about 3.5 hours early Tuesday morning, Aug. 11.
The arrest of Bradley John Johnson stemmed from an investigation into the accident about 3:50 a.m. near the Cooperative Farmers Elevator feed mill on the 1500 mile of Tyler Avenue on the east side of Ocheyedan, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson admitted he crashed a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, according to court documents.
He also admitted to consuming Fireball Cinnamon Whisky.
An open water bottle containing an alcoholic beverage was found inside the car.
Johnson had bloodshot, watery eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage and failed preliminary sobriety tests.
He was charged with first-offense operating while under the influence, driving while his license was denied or revoked, possession of an open container of alcohol as a driver and failure to maintain control of his vehicle, which received an estimated $4,000 damage.
The transformer box received an estimated $5,000 damage.
Johnson also received minor injuries, according to authorities.
