REGIONAL—Conservation Districts of Iowa and the O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District are offering several scholarship opportunities to area high school seniors to help defray college expenses.
Students who are interested in conservation and agriculture are eligible to apply. While these are wide fields and many studies qualify, preference will be given to students pursuing programs of study in conservation.
Copies of the application, which will be dual purpose for the Conservation Districts of Iowa and the Soil & Water Conservation District, are available online at www.cdiowa.org.
The deadline to submit applications by to the Soil & Water Conservation District’s office is Friday, Feb. 14. The office’s mailing address is 315 S. Rerick Ave., Primghar, IA 51245.
The Conservation Districts of Iowa awards scholarships to one student in each of its nine regions across Iowa. The top three students receive the following respective award amounts: $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000.
The first-, second- and third-place awards will be paid directly to an applicant’s college of choice in two equal installments — the first one upon enrollment at the beginning of the academic year and the second one at midterm.
Student winners from the Conservation Districts of Iowa’s other six regions in the state each will receive $500 scholarships, which will be paid directly to them.
The Soil & Water Conservation District’s scholarships will use the same application as the Conservation Districts of Iowa’s, so students only need to apply once. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded at midterm to the winning students directly.
