HAWARDEN—A 26-year-old Hawarden man was arrested about 2:15 p.m. Sunday, May 2, on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest of Jose Alvarez stemmed from the investigation of a Nissan Altima parked near the demolition derby pit, according to the Hawarden Police Department.
The vehicle left the scene when a patrol vehicle pulled up and traveled to the 600 block of Third Street before stopping.
Officers followed and while one was talking to the driver, another observed Alvarez, the passenger, slide something between the seats. The officer found a small bag of meth and a meth pipe, according to the incident report.
