BELOIT—A 40-year-old South Dakota woman was killed in a one-vehicle crash Sunday, Sept. 8, southeast of Beloit.
Barbara Jo Rozeboom of Canton, SD, was driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey north on blacktop A54B at about 6:25 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve about a half-mile south of the A50 intersection, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The van went into the east ditch, struck a small tree, a fence and a field driveway, then rolled several times before coming to rest on its top, facing north in the northbound lane.
Rozeboom, the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle was totaled.
It was raining at the time of the accident, according to the Iowa State Patrol report.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Officer, Inwood Fire & Rescue and Canton Fire & Rescue also responded to the scene.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton.
Rozeboom, a day-care provider, is survived by her husband, Chad, and six children.
According to her obituary, she cherished time spent with her family, especially family movie night and watching her children play sports. She enjoyed a good book, looked forward to the annual family fishing trip, and loved social activities and being around people.
A memorial fund has been established in her name at First Bank & Trust in Canton
Her accident was the fourth one involving a motor vehicle resulting in a fatality in Lyon County this year.
