GEORGE—The body of a George resident was recovered from a waterway in the community earlier today (Tuesday, Sept. 22), according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
“There’s a little creek that runs through the middle of town and it was basically in this guy’s backyard; his own backyard,” sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep said.
“It’s a local resident and, right now, it’s looking like it was possibly suicide.”
Vander Stoep’s office can’t confirm the cause of death until the body has been transported to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Laboratory in Ankeny for an autopsy.
“It’s an ongoing investigation and right now we are not releasing much because an autopsy has got to be done,” Vander Stoep said
