ASHTON—A 35-year-old Ashton woman was arrested about 8:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and no valid driver’s license.

The arrest of Tara Deann East stemmed from the stop of a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville for a nonfunctioning brake light on East Third Street in Ashton, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

East told the deputy she did not have a driver’s license and there was a pipe and a couple of dirty baggies in a glasses case between the center console and the passenger seat of her car, according to court documents.

The deputy located the container which held a pipe and two bags with meth residue.
