PRIMGHAR—A 50-year-old Larrabee man was arrested Wednesday, April 28, on an O’Brien County warrant for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

The arrest of Carl Jay Thompson stemmed from an investigation into a complaint about Thompson, who operates a mechanic shop in Primghar, according to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

A Primghar woman had taken her 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser to Thompson to do some work on the vehicle about two months ago.

It took longer for the work to be done on the vehicle than the woman anticipated and she told authorities she observed it sometimes was not in the shop.

On April 22, the woman tried to contact Thompson in an attempt to get her vehicle back and she could not reach him by phone and her vehicle was not in the shop.

The woman contacted authorities and the vehicle was located at Thompson’s residence.

Thompson said he drove the vehicle there without the owner’s consent for a test drive.

He kept the vehicle at his residence at least two days until it was located, according to court documents.

The warrant for his arrest was issued April 27.
