SIOUX CENTER—A 41-year-old Alcester, SD, man was arrested about 12:25 a.m. Saturday, June 5, in Sioux Center on charges of first-offense operating while under the influence and failure to yield to a pedestrian’s right of way.

The arrest of Jack Harold Smith stemmed from the stop of a 1977 Ford F-250 pickup for failing to yield to pedestrian in the right of way on the 200 block of Highway 75 in Sioux Center, according to the Sioux Center Police Department.

Smith had slurred speech; impaired balance and the odor of an alcoholic beverage and failed preliminary sobriety tests.

He admitted to consuming alcohol, according to the incident report.
