IRETON—In memory of former Ireton Area Historical Society (IAHS) president and long-standing member Marsha Brown, members of the society are hosting a Garden Walk from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, in Ireton.
“Part of the reason we are having this event is to honor our former president,” charter member Ardis Eilts said. “Marsha Brown, she was so active. She was active in so many different ways, it’s a long-standing association and we just want to honor her.”
“I believe Marsha and her sister Janet were the first to organize a Garden Walk in 2010,” IAHS member Shirley Ten Napel said. “We also feel we should have a project to bring the community together as well as to help fund the ongoing expenses that we have with maintaining three buildings.”
The society maintains the Ireton Museum, Kemper School and the Historical House.
With membership being less and less, the society is also hoping to have new members want to join. To become a member all one must do is contact Ten Napel 712- 441-6660 or Eilts 712-278-2164.
Tickets and the Garden Walk guide will be available at the Historical House at 301 Ash Street in Ireton.
On display during Tuesday’s Garden Walk, participants will be treated to view some of Ireton’s most valued treasures. Those include vegetable gardens, flower gardens, a playhouse, a treehouse as well as a man cave where all will be welcomed to refreshments.
