Rockin’ the roof off

Annual concert series ready to rock Arnolds Park

Visitors to the Iowa Great Lakes have been having a rockin’ good time at the Roof Garden for more than a few decades.

And while the iconic venue’s latest location is a couple months from a major makeover and renovation, those good times will continue with the Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Association’s annual Rock the Roof concert series.

Until the Roof Garden project is complete in early August, the concerts will take place next door at the Majestic Pavilion, which underwent its own face-lift in time for the 2018 summer season.

New acoustic panels have elevated the sound quality of the facility, something several bands will enjoy over the course of this summer.

The first one to do so for the Rock the Roof series will be The Brits.

The Omaha-based band pays homage to the British Invasion bands including, but not limited to, The Beatles, The Dave Clark Five, The Rolling Stones, Queen and Elton John.

“They’re a great band and put on a great show. If you like British Invasion music you will love that night of music,” said Paul Plumb, marketing director at Arnolds Park Amusement Park.

Tickets are $10 for the show, which includes a bake sale and silent auction as part of a special museum fundraiser.

There are also season passes available for the entire 11-show Rock the Roof series at just $60 apiece.

It’s no coincidence the Iowa Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Association Hall of Fame & Museum is located right next to Arnolds Park Amusement Park, or that the two entities combine to host so many concerts throughout the summer months.

“Music has been part of the park since it first began,” Plumb said. “Live music and the amusement park go hand-in-hand really and we’re trying to reinvigorate that even more now. There are events going on almost every night of the week as far as live music. If not here, then locally there is something on every night during the summer.”

And Rock the Roof is ready to get its summer started.

First up, The Brits.
