Tulip Festival Road Race

Tulip Festival Road Race begins at Windmill Park

New course, new time, same fun run.

The 41st edition of the Tulip Festival Road Race is set for Saturday, May 21, with the start time bright and early at 7:50 a.m. at Windmill Park in downtown Orange City.

“We adjusted the start to make it easier for participants to do both the road race and the Tour de Tulips bike ride. It also allows us to finish a bit earlier for the locals who have many other activities and volunteer commitments later in the morning and day,” said race organizer Jeff Joiner.

Running distances of 5K and 10K as well as a 1-mile walk are available and open to all ages and ability levels.Registration will cost $30 through May 20 then $35 the morning of the event with participants receiving a race T-shirt, Tulip Festival cinch sack, electronic timing, snacks and a fun morning of encouragement from fellow participants and the community.

Overall winners earn themselves a wooden shoe trophy and gift certificate while age group winners also received a unique Tulip Festival award.

They also get a new route around town.

“The new course is designed to allow participants to the finish the final stretch down Central Avenue from Northwestern College through the rows of tulips and sights of Tulip Festival to finish at Windmill Park,” Joiner said. “We feel this will be a welcome change to allow the race to feel like part of the festival and show off our town to visitors who come for the race.”
