Barefoot Bar to host Full Moon Party on June 17

It’s almost time to howl at the moon.

And the Barefoot Bar has you covered with their second Full Moon Party of the year at 6 p.m. Monday, June 17.

Ever since the Barefoot Bar opened its doors the monthly Full Moon Parties have been a staple of the summer months.

“Since the inception of the Barefoot Bar in 2002, we’ve been hosting these Full Moon Parties and they are just something that has not died off. Every year they keep getting more fun and more popular,” said Debbie Parks, the marketing director at Parks Marina. “It’s a beautiful spot to see the full moon. I would say it’s one of the prettiest spots in the Lakes.”

In addition to the guest of honor, the bright moon over the waters, the Full Moon Parties also always feature some great live music.

“This time we’ll be welcoming back the Johnny Holm Band. He has just become a friend throughout the years and every time he’s here it’s never a disappointment. It’s always a great show that appeals to everyone,” Parks said. “They are constantly revamping their playlist so you never know what you’re going to get. He’s also really good at getting people involved and up on stage.”

Another tradition of all of the Full Moon Party events is the food.

In addition to their regular menu, the Barefoot Bar offers a special treat during their Full Moon Party — the seafood boil.

The contents may vary some depending on the market and what’s freshest, but there’s always plenty of fresh seafood to compliment the potatoes, corn and sausage. It’s a fun, casual event that fun to enjoy with family and friends. “The seafood boils are served family-style with fresh seafood and everything just being poured out on paper on the table,” Parks said. “It’s always really fun and really good. They usually sell out so if you want the seafood boil make sure to come early.”

The summer will feature more Full Moon Parties. The July 16 event will have music by Elton Dan & Gypsies Doves & Dreams. Nashville recording artist Dave McElroy will perform on Aug. 15.

Even though the full moon will be on a Monday night, Parks said that there is still plenty of fun to be had at the Barefoot Bar along with the spectacular views of the moon itself.

“We were in the Florida Keys in Morada Bay and we happened to be in town for one of their full moon parties, but I have to say the Full Moon Parties in Okoboji at the Barefoot Bar are just as pretty,” Parks said.
