Neil Diamond tribute concert comes to Okoboji
"Sweet Caroline” has become a sports arena staple and karaoke go-to. And it isn’t even one of Neil Diamond’s number-one singles.
But it will also surely be a crowd pleaser in the Iowa Great Lakes during the Neil Diamond Tribute by Keith Allyn at the Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji.
The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Lauridsen Performing Arts Theatre with tickets $25 per person.
“Tickets started selling immediately,” said Rachelle Fratzke, the art center’s performing arts director. “He’s obviously very popular and fits here well. Who doesn’t know ‘Sweet Caroline?’ He’s got so many hit songs that are all so popular.”
Diamond has, in fact, had 38 songs crack the Billboard Top 10 over the course of his career.
“Cracklin’ Rosie” and “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” are among the 10 that made it to the top spot on the charts.
Diamond has also been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The man paying tribute to Neil Diamond actually began his career in comedy having opened up for such industry heavyweights as Chris Rock, Tim Allen and Robin Williams.
Keith Allyn’s musical turn started with an Elvis tribute act, and he was voted a top-ten Elvis by Graceland, before he turned his attention to Neil Diamond.
After performing in Branson, MO for 10-plus years, Allyn now travels all around the country presenting his tribute to one of the most prolific and beloved American singer-songwriters of all time.
So good. So good. So good.
