One more lunar party at the Barefoot Bar

Sunrises and sunsets get all the attention. But when the full moon rises over the water it can be just as spectacular a sight to see.

And when it rises over East Lake Okoboji the best place to be is at the Barefoot Bar for their famous Full Moon Party.

Fortunately there is one more chance to catch the moonrise from the tiki bar, Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

“The Full Moon Party has kind of taken on a life of its own,” said Jeff Thee, marketing and social media coordinator at Parks Marina. “It’s amazing the people that come out for these. It’s become the thing that you have to go do — one of those folklore things of the Iowa Great Lakes.”

In addition to the one-of-a-kind atmosphere of the Barefoot Bar, the Full Moon Party always brings out a local favorite for live music.

This time around it’s The Fishheads taking the stage for the final lunar celebration of the summer.

The food is also always a draw on one of these special nights with barbecue and a seafood boil being the specialties of the evening.

Because of it’s spot on the calendar, the final Full Moon Party of the year has a slightly different feel from the rest.

Some of it’s the weather. Some of it is the people enjoying the party.

“We see a lot more locals coming out than in July, which is fun to see,” Thee said. “We’ll hope for a nice, warm, long fall this year and one more beautiful night for a Full Moon Party. It’s always fun event to be a part of and to see people enjoying themselves and having a great time.”
