Wes Hampton

Wes Hampton performs concerts, cooking show in LeMars

They are going to be cooking up some fun at the Browns Century Theater the weekend of Oct. 2-3.

Legendary musician Wes Hampton, a tenor with the Gaither Vocal Band, will be performing two concerts and will finish things off with a cooking show as he is a man of many talents.

He will be performing concerts at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. His cooking show will take place Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Browns Century Theater.

Hampton is known for his singing voice.

Starting in 2005, he joined the famous Gaither Vocal Band as their tenor, and has been performing with the group and as a soloist ever since.

“Wes was a defining influence in the Gaither Vocal Band’s 2008 Grammy-winning and Dove-nominated recording, Lovin’ Life, as well as the Dove-nominated Christmas recording, Christmas Gaither Vocal Band Style, also which released in 2008,” according to the Gaither website.

The Browns will also be performing an opening concert before Hampton takes the stage.

“The Browns are going to be singing. Tenors sing high and they need a little break to help with the longevity of their voice,” Michaela said.

Doing a cooking show is not something that Hampton does all that frequently.

“When we were thinking of who we wanted to bring to our theater, Wes Hampton came to mind for his singing, of course, and because of his cooking,” said Michaela Brown, one member of The Browns family singing group. “I love to cook and he loves to cook as well. He just published his latest cookbook, and I talked him into doing a cooking demonstration.”

Hampton is from Alabama so Michaela expects this good, ol’ southern boy will be sharing some of his southern family recipes that will be unique to us in the Midwest.

Bringing these three events in two days to LeMars is something the Browns are very excited about.

“It’s obviously an honor to show our friends and heroes in the music industry our hometown and our theater here,” Michaela said. “And I’m excited to hear him sing and for him to do the cooking show because that is not something he normally does. I’m really excited to see that.”
