M-PACT to perform in Orange City on Dec. 7
The dulcet sounds of the crooner Bing Crosby can get just about anyone in the holiday spirit. Some other Christmas crooners are headed to Orange City to spread some holiday cheer of their own.
M-PACT, an L.A.-based a cappella group, will be performing a Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Unity Christian Knight Center. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students.
“The group has been in existence for a long time — like 20 years. They undergo new members and new changes, but they do their own arranging and their own interpretations of covers and songs that are just really wonderful,” said Lindsay Bauer, the executive director of Orange City Arts.
Putting a new spin on the old holiday standards leads to a unique musical experience for the audience.
“The holiday show is going to be fun because it is songs we all know, but hearing them put their own spin on these songs is just wonderful,” Bauer said.
The group has performed with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Boyz II Men, Liza Minnelli, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole and the New York Voices. They have also been featured in Disney feature films, on television and on the radio worldwide.
Bauer first fell in love with the group after seeing a recording of their holiday show.
“They did a PBS special and it was this really big, glitzy thing but their music was so genuinely heartfelt,” Bauer said. “I don’t know if it was its originality, but an honesty came through in their music. You can tell they are really devoted to making beautiful music together.”
The holidays are a wonderful time of year, and Bauer hopes that this concert helps put people in the Christmas spirit.
“I love Christmas and this holiday show is the highlight of the year for me,” Bauer said. “One of the things I love about the holidays is people spend the whole season purposefully being nicer to each other. And having all these people come together in this one space to share this concert will be a lovely thing.”
