HULL—One person was injured in a two-vehicle collision about 3:55 p.m. Thursday, April 12, on Highway 18, two miles east of Hull.
Ian Van Grootheest, 15, Hull, pulled out of a residence driveway on the north side of highway to travel east when his 2009 Chevrolet Colorado was struck by a 2004 Dodge Ram towing a field cultivator being driven west by Vernon Lee Van Beek, 66, Inwood, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Department.
After the collision, the cultivator became detached, entered the south ditch and came to rest in a field. Van Grootheest’s vehicle entered the north ditch.
Van Grootheest was transported by Hull Ambulance to Sioux Center Hospital and later airlifted to Avera Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. No other injuries were reported.
The Van Grootheest vehicle received an estimated $20,000 damage. Van Beek’s pickup received an estimated $15,000 damage. The field cultivator received an estimated $500 damage.
