LLRC available to Live Healthy entrants

Participants in Live Healthy Northwest Iowa will receive a punch card that may used to attend classes, such as this spin class at the Northwest Iowa Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center in Sheldon.

REGIONAL—While there is an entry fee to participate in Live Healthy Northwest Iowa 2019, the program’s perks more than cover the cost.

Live Healthy Northwest Iowa 2019 is a team-based wellness challenge that runs Jan. 14-March 22.

There are two divisions of competition: a minutes of activity division and weight-loss division

Anyone 18 years of age and older may form a team.

All teams must consist of 2-10 people, with all teams eligible to enter one or both divisions of competition for the same entry fee.

Over the course of 10 weeks, teams track activity minutes and/or weight loss through the Live Healthy Iowa website. Each team member has a personal online dashboard to report and monitor progress and access valuable resources.

Teams may register in the minutes of activity division, the weight-loss division or both. In either case, individuals track or record minutes of activity and/or weight loss which is used to calculate a team’s average activity minutes and weight-loss percentage.

Live Healthy Northwest Iowa is managed by the staff of the Northwest Iowa Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center on the campus of Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon and sponsored by The Sheldon Mail-Sun, Sanford Sheldon and Lewis Drug.

Registrations must be completed at the LLRC or LLRC East.

The cost is $44 per person if registered by 5 p.m. Jan. 7 or $54 Jan. 8-14.

The cost for LLRC members is $29 per person by 5 p.m. Jan. 7 or $39 Jan. 8-14.

Initial and final weigh-ins for all participants may include free body composition readings if desired — a $10 per reading value.

Each participant receives a 16-hole punch card — a $59 value. The punch card is good for use of the LLRC and LLRC East facilities and equipment and for participation in classes. The punch card is good through March 31.

Prizes are awarded to the top two teams in the minutes of activity division, top two teams in the weight-loss division, individual overall winner in the minutes of activity division and individual overall winner in the weight-loss division.

Prizes include cash, LLRC gift certificates, gift cards to local merchants, healthy foods/snacks, fitness technology and equipment, and much more. However, there is no double-dipping for prizes — participants who win as part of a team may not win an individual prize.

Participants also have the experience of LLRC staff to available to receive advice on exercise and healthy nutrition.

Live Healthy Northwest Iowa participants also automatically are enrolled in the Live Healthy Iowa program which provides a challenge T-shirt, a personal online dashboard with the ability to sync Fitbit devices and other apps, a complimentary one-year magazine subscription, weekly motivational messages, chances to win prizes and more.
