HARTLEY—The Hartley City Council has decided to end its intergovernmental agreement with Sanborn to share the services of one police officer. Both communities have their own police chief and a two-officer staff, and since 2006 had shared a third officer. Hartley has had issues with overtime pay and sees enough growth in the community that it wants to hire a third full-time officer. The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn School District also wants to have more visibility from law enforcement in the schools. Read more about the decision in the Dec. 8 issue of The N’West Iowa REVIEW.
