MASON CITY—A N’West Iowa legislator hopes renewed attention may help solve a 20-year-old Iowa mystery. TV anchor Jodi Huisentruit vanished from her Mason City apartment complex on June 27, 1995. The 27-year-old blonde’s apparent abduction and murder — she was declared dead in May 2001 — has been the subject of a great deal of media scrutiny over the last two decades. State Rep. John Kooiker (R-Boyden) drafted a letter on Huisentruit’s disappearance this spring. Working with Rep. Sharon Steckman (D-Mason City), they persuaded all 100 members of the Iowa House of Representatives to sign it, and Kooiker contacted Mason City officials to ask for their support in bringing more attention to this and other cold cases. Read more about the case in the May 30 issue of The N’West Iowa REVIEW.
