WOW takes over Expo Center for the weekend
The Dickinson County Expo will become shopping central next weekend.
Women’s Okoboji Weekend will take over the space and pack it with about 70 vendors covering everything from food and cooking to skin care and boutique clothing.
“There is a lot to be excited about this year,” said Stephanie Haviland, media specialist with Community First Broadcasting. “We have a bunch of new vendors. We always try to bring something new and exciting and keep it fresh and fun.”
WOW is so popular there is a waiting list of vendors hoping to get in the doors for next year’s party.
The party gets started 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.
There will be the shopping extravaganza, Hy-Vee Holiday Showcase with food and beverage sampling and the first 50 people through the door receive a free bottle of wine.
The wine giveaway extends to Saturday as well when the first 50 also will be rewarded.
The fun will run 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. There will be major prize giveaways throughout the weekend as well.
“Everybody gets to register for a $1,000 gift certificate to Spirit Lake Silver & Gold and everybody gets to register for a YETI softside cooler and tumbler prize package,” Haviland said.
There will also be multiple drawings for gift cards to various local businesses.
One such business is Hy-Vee, whose Holiday Showcase is always a big draw.
“They do sampling through out the show, but Friday is the big one. They really put out a big spread of food samples, wine, hors d’oeuvres and desserts,” Haviland said.
Another food option will be Red’s Café out of Hartley, who will be occupying the kitchen for WOW this year at the Expo Center.
The event got its start in Spencer as the Women’s Expo and moved to the Lakes in 2011.
“It’s all about bringing a great overall experience to ladies that want to come to the Lakes for the weekend,” Haviland said. “We’re giving a reason to come during the offseason and reason to spend time with girlfriends, moms and daughters. We work really hard to keep vendors fresh so it’s not the same show every year, so ladies will find something they love, can shop for themselves and maybe start some holiday shopping.”
With more than 70 vendors, the shopping opportunities will certainly be there during Women’s Okoboji Weekend.
